Look What a Little Bowling Can Accomplish!

Monday Morning

There were 13 members plus two Key Club members at our Monday meeting. Rachel Hays and Nate Arrin joined us for breakfast. Marlin and Chris were our greeters. Marlin had grace.  Gary Miller had humor. Happy bucks from Dan, Chris and Jackie. The Satellite Club is collecting personal care items for the FDL Foster Care bags. They would like to donate twenty five again this year. Questions, contact myself or member of satellite club for list of items needed. Gary Miller is planning an interclub for April 11th at West Bend German Night. The Bob Last Golf Outing is May 18th. Steve Wilson FDL PAC will be the guest speaker on the 13th for the Noon Club. Jerry King will be going on an Honor flight on April 11th. If you don’t have a Kiwanis T-shirt, contact Chris Serres. Harry was the winner and winner. He drew the ten of diamonds. Joscelyn Deanovich/Dawn Scannell, Big Brothers/Big Sisters

Dawn filled in for Joscelyn and gave us all the up to date information about the BBBS bowling weekend. Dawn was on the Schenk Team. The Noon Club had two teams. There were two shifts on both Friday and Saturday. In addition to the bowlers, there were three lane sponsors per alley. The theme was Stars Wars. All total, they raised $90,000 for BBBS. Dawn volunteered to set up a Kiwanis Morning Team next year. Save the date for 2019. In preparation for that event, we have bowling with BBBS Littles on April 15th. Also if you like Mexican food, Casa de Tequila is offering a 10% rebate to BBBS on Monday night March 12th. For more information, go  to www.bbbsfdl.org or call 922-8200.

Could We Permanently End Bullying in Fond du Lac?

There were 14 members plus three guests, Scott Rodman, Vicente Lezama Morales and Benjamin Giles at our Monday meeting. Dan Leeds was our greeter. Charlene had grace.  Charlene also had humor.  Gary, Bonnie, Lori Lamur and Steve had  happy bucks. We need volunteers for the Annual Trivia Contest on either March 6th or 8th. If you don’t have a Kiwanis T-Shirt contact Chris Serres. Dan announced that SOUP UP is March 1st. Gary was our winner and loser. He drew the Jack of Diamonds. Challenge Day, Scott Rodman

Challenge Day at Fond du Lac High was Feb. 8th. Scott is the local coordinator this year. He was on the committee in 2009 and 2010. Both Vicente and Benjamin were participants as freshman in those programs. There are two separate videos on you tube. Challenge Day is an inter-active Anti Bulling Workshop to break down the walls of separation, isolation and loneliness that young people experience and to create an ambiance encouraging honest communication about issues that divide them. The first Challenge Day was held in Livermore California in 1987. Challenge Day will be held in the small gymnasium of the high school They will be led by two highly trained facilitators from the California based organization. They will host hundred students and thirty adult volunteers. This year’s program is sponsored by Open Circle UU Fellowship. Their budget is around $5,000. Gary Miller presented Scott with a check for $350 from the club. Boys/Girls Club have their annual fund raiser “Reach for the Stars” February 9th at Holiday Inn. John was our winner and loser. He drew the seven clubs. There are 41 cards left and a pot of $175.00. Fond du Lac Area Women’s Fund, Lori Namur

Bonnie presented a $200 check to Lori Namur, executive director of the Woman’s Fund. The Women’s Fund has been promoting positive change in the lives of Fond du lac area women and girls since 2004. Fond du lac says “No More” is their current initiative, addressing the issue of violence against women and children in our area. They work with the police departments, ASTOP, Solution Center, Agnesian Domestic Violence department to achieve this goal. This is a three year focus. Year one is community awareness and engagement. Year two is to actively engage men and boys in outreach strategy. Year three is to educate the community on the dynamics of healthy relationships. Help them take a stand for “No More.” To help, there will be a bystander training this fall. To fund these activities, they host Power of Purse fund raiser.
