Senior Center, Cathy Loomans

The Senior Center is for 50 and older. In 2017, they had 68,000 visits. The trend for the Senior Centers is that members will come in for the program and not stay all day. The city funds the building and the manager. Friends fund all the other expenses by fund raising. A lot of the new programs are geared for senior wellness. In addition, they are a senior meal site. For $3.00, you can get lunch Monday thru Friday. The travel group is part of the Friends. They have a gift shop. They use every square inch of the building for their programs. The Senior Center just turned fifty years old. Join the Friends group today. It helps support the Senior Center and you will a monthly newsletter with all their activities.

Sabish Elves, Gina Rieder

Gina, seventh grade social studies teacher, has been running the Sabish Elves for five year. Gina and her students started out to help kindergarten students at Parkside. This year Sabish social studies and science seventh graders helped 200 kindergarteners. They skyped the students to ask their needs. They purchased the presents and with Key Club and other adult volunteers, they wrapped them.  The program has been awarded a $10,000 grant to help fund the program in future years. Gina has sent us a link to photos of the past five years. Be sure to mark your calendars to help wrap next year. We have a number of our members and Key club members in 2017 pictures. Thanks Gina and Sabish students and staff for a great job.
