Real Heroes Making a Difference in FdL

Monday Morning

There were 11 members and one guest, Peter O’Leary at Monday’s meeting. Mark and Jan were our greeters. Jim did the grace. Charlene had the humor. Happy bucks from Bonnie for the bike trail clean up. Harry was happy to attend his 50th class reunion. Gary Miller was happy to attend his 60th class reunion. Donna is still looking for two people for the Scrabble Bee on October 2nd. Harry and Marlin reminded everyone to sell tickets. We have plenty of tickets and posters. Chris was winner and loser. She drew the six of spades. Remember that we have a Kiwanis web page and Facebook. If you are on Facebook, you can like our page.

Peter O’Leary, FDLFD

Peter has been fire chief in FdL for the last ten years. He started out with Fire Department in Western Chicago over 39 years ago. He is proud of the International and ISO Class One rating. Fond du Lac fire Department has an annual budget of $8 million dollars. They do receive additional revenue by being the Regional Haz Mat Team and offering advance ambulance service to the outlying cities. They have three ambulances in service at all times. They can pull fire fighters from other crews to man the fourth and fifth ambulances. Of the 6200 calls last year, they took the reserve ambulances out 99 times. There are only 67 fire fighters and twenty are on duty at any time. They just broke ground on the new $4.2 million Fire 7 Police Training Center. It is located NW of the movie theater. It will be used by Fond du Lac Fire and Police Departments plus outlying volunteer fire department.
