You Go Girl!

Monday Morning

There were 16 members at our Monday meeting plus three guests. They were Karissa Schneider and our speaker, Pam Sippel. Both are from Boys and Girls Club. In addition, Annie Moore, president of the Key Club joined us. Annie reminded us that there is no Storybook Land this year. The Key Club will help the library with a teddy bear sleep over April 8/9th. The greeters were a no show. Gary Miller led us in grace, again. Charlene had the humor. She gets better every week. Happy bucks, both Dawn and Steve were happy.  We have all kinds of fund raisers, Gary Ring for Grief Relief, and Pete for South Shore Coracle on April 23 & 24th. Our speaker picked Glen again. He picked the three of Spades for a non-winner. Next Monday’s 50/50 Raffle will have 28 cards in the game including the five pay cards with a pot of about $315 Our own Jeff Stueber is guest speaker at the Sophia Servant Leadership on Friday morning at Children Museum at 7:00. He is talking about Fish Philosophy. I assume that it is not about Lake Winnebago fish.  

Pam Sippel – Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run of Fond du Lac is an international 501 c 3 youth development program. The program is a transformational learning program for 8 – 13 year old girls that teach life skills through dynamic, conversation based lessons and running games over a 10 week season. Girls on the run has grown from 15 girls and one team to 150 girls and 11 teams in 2016. The 10 week program culminates with school age girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a 5K running event. The goal of this program is to unleash confidence through health and fitness. Teams meet twice per week for ten weeks at the school which they are registered.  We inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience based curriculum which creatively integrates running The girls get running shoes and t-shirts. We are donating our PDQ Brat Fry proceeds to sponsor a team. The goal is limit a girls total cost at $60.00 if they can afford it. The race is May 14th. They need volunteers to help the girls.

There were 16 members at our Monday meeting plus one guest. Donna Altepetea was our guest speaker. Gary had humor? Gary also led us in grace. Charlene was our greeter. Our speaker picked Sharon again. She picked the Jack of clubs for a non-winner. Next Monday’s 50/50 Raffle will have 33 cards in the game including the five pay cards with a pot of about $245.  Happy bucks came from Gary Miller. Reminders, if you are bringing a speaker and need a projector, contact Gary Miller. He has the projector at his house for security reasons. Dan announced that the Trinity Soup dinner is March 3rd at the Trinity’s school gym. Cost is $7 and Dan will have tickets.  In addition, Dan is the soup maker. Dawn has a interclub planned for February 18th. It is the Noon Club’s Chili and Grilled Cheese lunch at the American Legion hall. Cost is $6.

Donna Altepetea – Grief Relief

Donna is the new director of Grief Relief. This program is part of Agnesian Bereavement Support Program. Grief Relief serves children who have had loss in of a close family member. It offers support to both kids and parents. They are also on call to help children in the school system with a loss of a fellow student. The bereavement program started with the hospice program and has grown to cover any death in the hospital or nursing home. The club donated $300 to buy a case of special books for the kids to use in their support groups. The photo is attached. The book was developed by United Healthcare. They also host a two day camp for their kids. Last year they had forty kids at Cedar Valley for the camp. Our own Gary ring was one of the volunteers. Gary also helps with one of the support groups. They always need additional volunteers 907-3940. Their big fund raiser is April 14th at the K/C Hall.

An Army You’ll Really Want to Fight for

There were 19 members at our Monday meeting plus one guest. Our guest speaker were Telinda Wilson. Happy bucks came from Gary Miller for returning home, Dan for going to London, Harry for his birthday, Bob for his birthday and for the Packers. Special thanks to our greeter, Del. Charlene handled the invocation and Jackie aka Bob had some humor. Bob was the ticket winner. He drew the seven of diamonds for no money. Next Monday’s 50/50 Raffle will have 40 cards in the game including the six pay cards with a pot of about $165. Marlin reported that Christmas presents for our “adopt a family” are delivered. We also purchased $130 in food cards thru the members donations.

Captain Telinda Wilson – Salvation Army

The Wilsons have been here since October 2013. This is their second appointment. Their last appointment was from a small town in Indiana with 9,000 people. William Booth founded the Salvation Army 150 years ago. The chapter in Fond du Lac was formed 125 years ago. The present building is the third location in Fond du Lac. The theme for the Salvation Army this year is “Others”. Some numbers of their support for the community, children’s Christmas gifts – 2,500; coats given out – 1,157. “Back to School, they gave 1,000 certificates for shoes. The Thrift Store gave away $3,000 vouchers from their store items. Regular sales help support the Salvation Army other programs. The Food Pantry serves about 800/1000 people per month for a total of 30,000 pounds of food per month. They gave away 900 turkeys and will give away about 700 Christmas meals. Two of their programs are Salvation Outdoors, Archery & Religion. “Pathway to Hope” works to help get families out of poverty on a permanent basis. This is a pilot program for the Salvation Army.
