A Very Successful School

Monday Morning

There were 13 members at our Monday meeting plus one guest. Kelly Norton was our guest speaker. Charlene had groundhog humor for the morning. She is looking for a full time job, as humorist. Pete led us in prayer.  Gary Miller and Mark greeted the group. Our speaker picked Bonnie name. She picked the two of clubs for a non-winner. Next Monday’s 50/50 Raffle will have 34 cards in the game including the five pay cards with a pot of about $235.  Happy bucks came from Dan, Marlin, and Gary Ring. West Bend Kiwanis Chili Cook Off is February 6th. Gary Miller, Gary Ring & Pete worked with the other two Kiwanis Clubs clean the Solution Center Warming Shelter. Reminders, if you are bringing a speaker and need a projector, contact Gary Miller. He has the projector at his house for security reasons.

Kelly Norton – St. Mary’s Springs Academy

Kelly is President of the Academy. The school started with 17 students in 1909. Today, they have 826 students. They are averaging a 9% growth. St. Agnes Sisters started the school. Today, they have 114 staff members with only one sister left. They have raised almost $25.3 million for their new construction and renovation. This includes $7 million for renovation of the existing buildings. The new campus will combine grades kindergarten thru twelfth grade. The tuition in 1909 was seventy five dollars per semester for everything including room and board. Today the tuition goes from $1,500 to $5,900. Football started in 1940 and today they twenty different teams. They have seventy voucher students this year with additional $300,000 of tuition assistance. There were 17 members at our Monday meeting plus one guest. Sam Tobias was our guest speaker. Sharon had humor for the morning. She is a natural. Dave Twohig led us in prayer.  Dan Leeds and Dave Lefeber greeted the group. Sharon picked the three of clubs for a non-winner. Next Monday’s 50/50 Raffle will have 35 cards in the game including the five pay cards with a pot of about $225.  Happy bucks came from Sharon for her vacation in Jamaica. Don’t forget Dan’s Annual School Auction. See the attachment for more details. West Bend Kiwanis Chili Cook Off is February 6th. Side note-we donated our old trophies to ARC.

Sam Tobias – Fond du Lac County Planning and Development

Sam talked about the different parks and trails in Fond Du Lac County. He recommended that we visit the Parks and Trails section on the county web page, www.fdlco.wi.gov . Hobbs Woods is the most used park. Riggs Park in Ripon is the lightest use park. The Ripon Kiwanis is helping to build a splash pad at Riggs. Columbia Park will get a fish cleaning station this summer. Waupun has both a playground and a disc golf course. Some day if highway 23 is completed, it will have a bike trail similar to the Sheboygan section of 23. Someday, they would like to complete the bike trail from Eden to Fond du Lac. As well as the bike trail through Rosendale. Fond du Lac is fortunate to have a number of great parks and trails, visit the county web for all the details.

There were 15 members at our Monday meeting plus one guest. Craig Molitor was our guest speaker. Gary had humor for the morning. He had a relapse this week. Pastor Glen led us in prayer.  Dave Krug greeted the group. Pete picked the ten of clubs for $10 – a winner. Next Monday’s 50/50 Raffle will have 36 cards in the game including the five pay cards with a pot of about $215.  Happy bucks came from Gary Miller, Dan Leeds and Steve Millin. Dan’s was a paid ad for the Annual School Auction. See the attachment for more details. Future events – The West Bend Kiwanis Chili Cook Off is February 6th. Business – Youth Services gave $250 to Badger Girls, $100 to Oakfield Post Prom and $150 to Fondy Idol. Priority One gave $900 to Oakfield Library Children Walk.  

Craig Molitor, Fond du Lac Convention & Visitor Bureau

Craig has run the Fond du Lac Convention & Visitor Bureau for about 5 ½ years. All hotels collect an 8% bed tax. This year they hope to collect about $600,000. This tax becomes their budget every year. They are the Marketing Department for Fond du Lac County. Right now, they are working on Sturgeon Spectacular, February 12–14, 2016. They helped with ideas for John McGivern’s “Around the Corner” in Fond du Lac. If you missed this show or have questions about the Convention Bureau, check out their website
