Better Higher Education

Monday Morning

There were 14 members plus our guest speaker at our Monday meeting. The waitress was our greeter. Dawn had the grace. Charlene sort of had the humor.  Harry and Gary Miller had happy bucks. Dawn announced that the District WI-UM convention is in Fond du lac August 18-20th.  She is looking for attendees and volunteers to work the event. See Dawn for details. Bonnie announced that we are landscaping for Habitat on July 18th. Jackie was a winner and loser. She drew the seven of spades. There are 51 cards left and a pot of $10.00.  Remember that we have a Kiwanis web page and Facebook. If you are on Facebook, like our page.  We have a projector for our speakers; please contact John if you need it. Speaking of programs for the future, get information to Jackie or myself. Zach Messite, Ripon College President

Zach is the president of Ripon College. In addition, he teaches Government and Politics. Ripon College was founded in 1851. There are 800 students at Ripon. About 2/3 are from Wisconsin. The cost of Ripon is $50,000 per year. The average cost payed by their students is $20,000. They offer thirty five majors. 70% of the students graduate in four years. And 90% of the students are job placed or go on to grad school. Ripon just opened a new Health and Wellness at a cost of $23 million. In addition, they have move both the book store and art gallery to the down town area

Key Clubber Wins $10,000 Scholarship

Congratulations to Fondy High Key Club president Sydney Loomans who has been awarded Jostens’s $10,000 scholarship for her outstanding work as a yearbook editor-in-chief. The focus of this scholarship was on innovative and efficient yearbook staff leadership as project manager. The competition for this scholarship is extremely competitive as Sydney beat out thousands of other applicants across the nation and is the first recipient in the entire midwest to win this award. Pictures include Principal Hagen, Sydney Loomans (recipient), and Erika Daleiden (yearbook adviser) as well as Sydney alongside her parents, Mitchell and Kimberly Loomans. The Kiwanis of Fabulous Fond du Lac congratulate Sydney for her fine work both in leading the Key Club and in leading the Fondy High Yearbook staff.

This Association Is Helping Where It’s Needed

Monday Morning

There were 16 members at our Monday meeting plus one guest, Cassandra Higgins. Jim and John were our greeters. Jackie did the grace for breakfast. Steve had the humor. Happy bucks came from Bonnie and Gary Miller.  We had a partial interclub to the Noon Club. Pete and Gary Miller golfed at their annual golf outing. . Special Committee is looking for members – see Dawn.  Pete was the winner and non-winner of the drawing. He drew the King of Spades. Cassandra Higgins, ARC of Fond du Lac

Cassandra Higgins is the Development Manager for The ARC. The ARC has been serving clients since 1963. They help about 750 adults and youths in the Fond du Lac area. Some of their programs are Special Olympics, Adult Evening and Weekend Programs, Adult Day Services, Youth After School, and transportation training for professionals. They have twenty five vehicles in their fleet. They have nine group homes and one respite home.  For their Community Enrichment Programs, they need both volunteers and money. For Walleye Weekend, they run the “Boss with the Moss.” They also have parking available in their parking lot. Their Annual Golf Outing is August 6th. 80% of their funding comes from Medicaid and the balance is from donations.
