Incredible Teens Aim to Make a Difference

Monday Morning

There were 15 members at our Monday meeting.  Key Clubbers were our greeters.   Special committee is looking for members – see Dawn.  Bonnie announced that we are serving lunch for Habitat on May 6th and May 18th. We are landscaping for Habitat on July 18th.  Side note – Del is at home and loves visitors.  Remember that we have a Kiwanis web page and Facebook. Fondy High Key Club

We were served a great breakfast by members of the Key Club. Sydney Loomans, Present President, introduced the news officers. They are: Co-presidents are Rachel Hays and Anistyn Dreifeurst. Vice President is Ashley Waldvogel. Secretaries are Emma Guelig, Hannah Joslin and Kassie Ellingson. Treasurer is Eliz Ziegler. Class directors are Abe and Ben Stoffel-Murray. They have 60 active members. During the year, they had 16 regular meetings. They send two members to Key Leader and two to DCON. They raised $500 for the penny wars. Half was give ti UNICEF and half to March of Dimes. They adopted  two families for Thanksgiving and Christmas. At their regular meetings, they had four outside speakers. They purchased 1,400 books for Reading Mothers Program at the hospital. One hundred students attended Youth Service Day.  Special thanks to Gary, Chris and Manny for all their hard work with the Key Club.

The Best Way to Improve the Workforce

There were 15 members plus three guests at our Monday meeting.   Melissa Worthington, Lisa McArthur and Bernadette Seefeld were our speakers. Marlin and Chris were our greeters.  Charlene had the humor. Mark, John and John had happy bucks. Harry had the grace. Gary Ring is selling raffle tickets for Grief Relief. Melissa Worthington, Lisa McArthur, and Bernadette Seefeld, Fond du Lac Works

Melissa, Lisa and Bernadette all work for the Fond du Lac Association of Commerce. They talked about different programs at the Association. They range from Fond du Lac works, which is working on the skilled shortage. Other programs are Lemonade Day, Career Academy, Youth Apprenticeship, Project Grill and many more. The ideas are mainly to help replace the retiring boomers in the work force.

Suicide Assistance for Fond du Lac Teens

Marian Sheridan and Jim Salasek, YScreen

YScreen started in 2002 and serves the whole county. The student Alcohol and Tobacco survey showed that 21% of students surveyed had considered suicide in the past year. The Fond du Lac School District sought evidence based best practices in youth suicide prevention. Emotional health screening was implemented at Fond du Lac High School. Between 2002 and 2015 school years, the percentage of students surveyed that reported having suicide decreased from 21% to 17% . The YScreen advisory board, which is a blend mental health professionals, school administrators and community agency representatives, is the guiding forces of the Fond du Lac Area YScreen Program. Major funding for YScreen is provided Fond du Lac School District, Agnesian Healthcare and the Fond du Lac United Way.
