Educating Kids Beyond High School

Monday Morning

There were 14 members at our Monday meeting. Harry and Chris were our greeters. John had the grace. Gary had the humor, very good humor.  Dawn announced that the District WI-UM convention is in Fond du Lac August 18-20th.  She is looking for attendees and volunteers to work the event.  The Kewaskum Kiwanis Craft Beer and Wine Festival is August 2nd. Harry was the winner and a loser. There are 46 cards left and a pot of $82.00.  Remember that we have a Kiwanis web page and Facebook. Bonnie Baerwald, MPTC Promise Program

Moraine Park has three main campus, Fond du Lac, Beaver Dam, and West Bend. They have 2,816 FTE students which mean 16, 236 students. They have 330 employees in the system. The Promise Program will help 300 students with an annual cost of $27, 150. It starts in the fall of 2018. They will need to raise $1/1.5 million to start the endowment. Some of the eligibility requirements are: reside in MPTC district, high school GPA of 2.5, score 16 on ACT and be eligible for Federal Pell grants. To remain eligible: full time student at MPTC, GPA of 2.5, eight hours of community stay in good standing. For complete list of requirements go MPTC web page of talk to Bonnie. What can we do to help: student referral, service learning referrals and donate to the program.

Helping Young People Reach the Heights

There were 17 members at our Monday meeting .Dawn was our greeter. Sharon  had the grace. Charlene had the humor.  Dawn announced that the District WI-UM convention is in Fond du Lac August 18-20th.  She is looking for attendees and volunteers to work the event.   We did have a winner and a loser. However, I forgot to write the name down. There are 47 cards left and a pot of $72.00.  Remember that we have a Kiwanis web page and Facebook. Peter Vercouteren, EAA Young Eagles

Young Eagles started in 1992. It was a way to inspire the next generation of aviators. Chuck Jaeger was the first chairman and the goal was to fly one million Young Eagles. To date they have flow over 1.8 million young aviators. Pete has flown between 100/150 kids. If you have some one that wants to sign up, contact Pete or go to Youngeagles.org. In Addition, Pete volunteers at the Fond du Lac airport during EAA. This runs from the 24th to 30th this year. About 250 planes will park at the Fond du Lac airport. They have enough traffic to get a temporary tower. Some of the highlights of EAA Air Venture this year are the B2 Spint, B1 Lancer, B52 Stratfortress. Airbus A400M, Restored B29 and the Warbirds.

Steve had the humor.  Dawn announced that the District WI-UM convention is in Fond du Lac August 18-20th.  She is looking for attendees and volunteers to work the event. Bonnie announced that we are landscaping for Habitat on July 18 from 4:00 to 7:30.  Back to school program will be August 5th and August 26th.  John was a winner and small winner. He drew the ten of spades for $10.00. There are 48 cards left and a pot of $30.00.  Remember that we have a Kiwanis web page and Facebook. Board Meeting Recap

Dan recapped the Membership Committee survey. If you need a copy contact Dan. The rescheduled picnic is 5 – 8 at Deneuve Shelter on July 19th. Contact Charlene to attend. Bring your shovel, rake, and gloves to 501 Farwell Ave to help with landscaping on July 18th. Sign up with Bonnie for the Dock In addition; she has signup sheets for Back to School programs on August 5th and 26th. Harry reported that we made almost $28,000.00 at Walleye. Total numbers of volunteer hours were over 1000 hours. We donated $2,500 to Band Boosters and $500.00 to Family Resource Center for their help. Fondue Fest is cancelled this year. We move on to Pork Fest on September 28th. We will need your help on the 27th and 28th. In addition don’t forget to get your cake recipe ready.  Gary Miller has scheduled an interclub for Ripon Morning on Wednesday July 19th.
