Monday Morning

We had 13 members at our Monday Appreciation Breakfast at Fond du Lac High School.  We had a large turnout of Key Clubbers, their two advisors, Chris Stelmacher and Sandi Berka, Principal Michelle Hagen and Assistant Principals, Paulene Mueller, Anthony Pizzo, Timothy Scottberg and Peter Snyder.  A bountiful breakfast of pancakes, sausage, fruit, bagels, juice and coffee was enjoyed by all.  There was no 50/50 Raffle drawing on Monday.  Next week’s drawing will have 41 cards, including seven pay cards, and a pot of at least $128.

Fondy High Key Club

The Fond du Lac High School Key Club had a member attend the 59th Annual District Convention (DCON) the weekend of March 14th in Green Bay.  The member told us about her experience at DCON, all the kids that attended (over 800) and how it inspired her to get more involved in her local Key Club organization.  She also thanked us for helping her get to go to DCON.

Eleven Key Clubbers then talked briefly about service projects that they participated in and why they found them to be a great thing for their Key Club to do.  Those eleven projects were:

  • Monthly ARC Bingo
  • Shop With A Cop
  • Girl Scout Dance
  • Parkside Knowledge A Thon
  • Story Book Land
  • Monthly YMCA Middle School Dance
  • Make A Difference Day
  • Food Pantry Assistance
  • Parent Back To School Night
  • Rienzi Cemetery Historical Tour
  • Grief Relief Event

Gary Ring officially thanked both Chris and Sandi for all they do for our Club in helping the Key Club members operate this long standing Key Club.  Chris and Sandi also publicly thanked Gary Ring for all that does as our Club’s liaison to the Key Club.

The last item of business on Monday morning was the introduction of the new Officers for the Key Club for next year.  Looks like a great batch of young adults to lead next year’s Key Club members.

Kiwanians Tackle Info on Football Coach

Monday Morning
We had 18 members and our guest speaker, Mike Gneuech, at Monday’s meeting back at The Main Street Cafe. John Cooper announced that it looks like we had a record Walleye Weekend. We sold 3,000 lbs. of cheese curds and almost all of our other product as well. It will take several weeks for all the bills to come in but all indications are that we had a record year. Del Waldschmidt asked the members to give John a round of applause for all the work he put into Walleye Weekend this year. Charlene Pettit noted that the sign up for the Annual Kiwanis Picnic is very light at this time. See more details under Kiwanis Happenings. “Happy Bucks” were offered by John Cooper in thanks for all the members who helped at Walleye Weekend and also by Dan Leeds for his time spent with his sister and her family and his grandson for the past three weeks in England/Scotland. Steve Millin was the 50/50 Raffle Winner and he drew the 10 of Hearts, another $10 winner. The next drawing will have 21 cards, five pay cards and a pot of at least $389.

Mike Gneuech – Fond du Lac High School Football
Mike Gneuech, Fond du Lac High School Varsity Football Coach, joined us on Monday morning to tell us about the FDL Football program. This is Mike’s second year as the head football coach at Fond du Lac High School, and he’s optimistic that this season will be a significant improvement over his first year. Mike noted that they’ll be young this year with only 10-12 returning seniors and 16 starters. The reason Mike thinks this will be a better year is the enthusiasm that they’re seeing in the weight room this summer. This is the first week of organized weight training, and they have 387 participants from grades 6–12 signed up to lift this summer. These 387 participants are from a number of different sports and not just the football program. Over the course of the past year the weight program has shown improved results in that prior to Mike’s arrival they only had three 300 lb. squat lifters. This year they are up to 32 lifters who can squat 300 lbs. quite an improvement. Specific to the football program they’ll be having four contact days in July with two of those days in scrimmages with other programs. Mike played four years of collegiate football and has been coaching for the past 13 years in an assistant capacity, the majority of that time at Hartland Arrowhead. Mike is also a social studies teacher at the high school and has received tentative approval to teach a course starting in 2014-15 that will focus on character development and leadership.

Fondy High Key Club to Host Storybook Land

Once again the Fond du Lac High School Key Club will be hosting Storybook Land. You are invited to join the Fondy High Key Club as they bring to life such classics as The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, Old McDonald, Snow White, and the Beauty and the Beast. The event will be held on Saturday, March 9 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. with tours starting every ten minutes. Everyone ages 3-10 years who is accompanied by an adult is welcome to attend this free event meant to encourage children in the joys of reading. In addition to enjoying seeing their favorite books acted out by Key Club members, each child in attendance will also receive a free children’s book at the end of the tour. This great event will be held at the Fond du Lac High School, door 1, and the Key Club members are asking each person to bring a canned good as a donation for local food pantries. This is a fantastic event that your kids will love. Don’t miss it!
