Monday Morning
We had 16 members and three guests at our Monday morning meeting. Joining us were two Horace Mann High School Key Clubbers, Michael Friedel and Michaela Olson and our guest speaker, Diane Cappozzo, FDL County Public Health Nurse. Bob Kahl had a “Happy $” for his son, Rob’s, recent Assembly election victory with 71% of the vote. Dan Leeds was happy as well, but he didn’t have a dollar, as his eldest son graduated from basic Air Force training over the weekend. Gary Miller reminded members of the Evening Club Spaghetti Dinner at the KC Hall on Wednesday evening, November 14th. Attendance can count as an attendance credit and possibly even an InterClub. Let Gary Miller or Glen Treml know if you attend. Gary Miller was the 50/50 Raffle winner and he drew the Seven of Hearts. While that wasn’t a winner, it does take another card out of the deck. Next week’s drawing will have 46 cards with nine pay cards and a pot of at least $82.

Diane Cappozzo, Fond du Lac County Public Health Department
Diane Cappozzo has been with the Fond du Lac County Health Department (PHD) for the past 30 years and she joined us on Monday morning to tell us about what the PHD is up to. The mission of the PHD is to prevent disease, protect the community, and promote healthy living for all. Their vision is to be a community leader in:

  • Detecting, investigating and preventing infectious disease
  • Identifying health issues facing Fond du Lac County residents
  • Collaborating with community partners to improve the health of all
  • Connecting people to needed health resources

They will accomplish this through assessment, advocacy, education, policy development, surveillance and service delivery. Diane then went on to talk about several programs that her department is currently involved with like the Save-A-Smile Program – A children’s’ dental program created to meet the basic preventative and restorative dental needs of Fond du Lac County residents, 18 years and younger, on Medical Assistance.

Monday Morning
We had 21 members and seven guests at our Monday morning meeting. Joining us were four Fondy High Key Clubbers, Megan Buechel, Katie Bucher, Luckie Cha and Bridget Stollfus and three guests from the American Cancer Society, Katie McCormick, Becky O’Brien and Sarah Karweick. Vickie Goldapske had a “Happy $” for her first deer with a bow and arrow, a 9 pointer that weighed in at 162 lbs. Gary Miller reminded members to watch for the Evening Club Spaghetti Dinner at the KC Hall on November 14th. That also can count as an attendance credit and possibly even an InterClub. John Cooper was the 50/50 Raffle winner and he drew the Ace of Diamonds. While that wasn’t a winner it does take another card out of the deck. Next week’s drawing will have 47 cards with nine pay cards and a pot of at least $70.

American Cancer Society, Relay for Life
John Cooper introduced three representatives from the American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay for Life Team in Fond du Lac, Katie McCormick, Becky O’Brien and Sarah Karweick. Katie is a full-time ACS employee while Becky and Sarah are volunteer co-chairs for the 2013 Relay for Life in Fond du Lac County. As part of the introduction John also presented a check to ACS Relay for Life in the amount of $1,245, which is the amount raised in the past two year’s Brat Fry at Relay for Life. Katie talked briefly about our local Relay for Life and that 2013 will be the 18th Annual in Fond du Lac County. The 2012 Relay for Life raised $284,385, down slightly from the previous year, but still a tremendous event for our community. The 2013 Relay for Life is scheduled for Friday, August 2nd at Fond du Lac High School. While it seems like that date is forever in the future the planning group for the local Relay for Life is already meeting and planning and will have their first Relay Team Meetings in early January. Apparently success drives from the commitment and energy of the local volunteers and dedicated staff of the regional ACS.

Tyson Krug, 128th Air Refueling Wing (Air National Guard
Tyson Krug, son of member Jan Krug, joined us on Monday morning to tell us about his experiences with Wisconsin Air National Guard (ANG). Tyson joined the ANG right out of high school in 2006. His first assignment was a munitions loader based at Truax Field in Madison. When the opportunity presented itself Tyson transferred to the 128th Air Refueling Wing and began his training as a “Boom Operator”. Tyson was fully trained in May 2012 and has been in his new role ever since. Tyson flies missions on one of the 128th’s 12 KC-135 Stratotankers. Tyson’s job is to “fly” the refueling boom to the receiving aircraft, connect to their refueling port and pump as much fuel as is needed as quickly as possible. Tyson provided us with a number of statistics that demonstrated the effectiveness and value of the WI ANG. He also described a number of places that he’s visited since May as a part of the 128th’s mission to keep our aircraft in the air. Tyson noted that he could refuel any Air Force plane that is flying today and most all of the Navy’s planes as well. Awesome program!!
