Drug Endangered Children, FdL Police Dept

The City of Fond du Lac Police Department in collaboration with the Fond du Lac County Department of Social Services, Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office, Fond du Lac School District, Probation and Parole, and Fond du Lac County Public Health Department, are pleased to announce the creation of a Drug Endangered Children (DEC) program for the City of Fond du Lac.

The purpose of the DEC Team is to collaboratively intervene on the behalf of the children who have been exposed to drug-endangered environments and are unsafe in those environments. DEC team members cooperate with each other so that parents/caretakers are vigorously and effectively prosecuted for child endangerment/abuse/neglect in addition to charges resulting from their illegal drug activities.

The continuing concern of substance abuse has forced DEC to respond more effectively and improve their response in drug-endangered environments.  DEC has pooled their expertise to become a collaborative effort and are determined to utilize all possible options to protect children from future harm of drug-endangered environments.

The foundation of DEC’s focus is to protect children in drug-endangered environments and to recognize that abusing drugs in the presence of children is child abuse/neglect. Exposing children to surroundings where drugs are used or sold is also an abusive and hazardous environment. The lack of attention and supervision where caretakers are under the impairment of drugs is neglect. These are all examples of child endangerment/abuse/neglect. They will investigate and prosecute to their fullest extent possible in cases where neglect/endangerment is evident.

DEC’s primary goals are: to minimize the re-victimization of drug-exposed children; to improve their health and safety by providing treatment and appropriate services to the family; and to develop a multi-disciplinary team maximizing their ability to respond to this devastating problem.

Thanks to Nick and Vance for an inside look into this new program to protect the young children in our community.

Monday Morning

We had 16 members at Monday’s meeting along with our guest speaker, Ryan Haus from Dynamic Chiropractic and Wellness Center to talk about the Lakeside Park Baseball Diamonds.  Happy Bucks were offered by Del Waldschmidt for his trip this week to Nevada (thank goodness we got the $ before he left), Jackie King for a weekend with her sister who is battling stage 4 lung cancer and Bob Kahl to correct his Happy Buck from the week before about his son’s victory party after the  mid-term election.  Gary Ring  announced an opportunity for a social gathering on Wednesday night, December 19th at Sebastian’s Restaurant.  He’s taking his wife, Lois, out to dinner and offered to buy a round of drinks for anyone that would like to be there before dinner to wish Lois a happy 60th birthday.  Be there between 5:30-6:00PM.  Dawn Scannell was the 50/50 Raffle winner and she drew the Nine of Clubs, not a winner.  After last week’s big winner the pot now stands at $9 with 51 cards left in the deck and nine pay cards.

Ryan Haus, Fond du Lac Youth Baseball

Dr. Ryan Haus joined us on Monday morning to give us an update on the Lakeside Park Baseball Diamond Project.   Plans are currently in place to build an exciting new multi-use baseball field complex at Fond du Lac’s beautiful Lakeside Park. There is a significant need for this project and is being performed with cooperation between FDL Youth Baseball, Fond du Lac School District, Fond du Lac Recreation Department, and the city of Fond du lac. The proposed complex will allow our community to offer new, improved, and expanded activities for residents of all ages.  The proposal is to build two new youth baseball fields that will be used primarily by youth baseball players 12 years old and younger. Part of Lakeside Park is being offered by and leased from the city to use for the facility. The facility will be managed by the FDL Recreation Department for scheduling and care. Once the facility is built it will be funded through its use and concessions.

The fields will expand the use and improve the beauty of Lakeside Park and will provide a new facility that will offer programs for all ages while being available for use to the public. The proposal includes fields, lights, batting cages, pavilion/shelter, bleachers, playground equipment, etc.

Our Club ended the meeting with a presentation of a $5,000 donation to this project from our Special Impact Committee.

Dana Knebel, MPTC Foundation

Dana Knebel, Director of College Advancement at MPTC joined us on Monday morning to talk about the MPTC Foundation. Established in 1976, the Moraine Park Foundation works to advance the College’s mission within the Moraine Park District by seeking an added measure of financial support used to offset the financial strain felt by Moraine Park students.  Although the majority of funding for the College comes from tax revenues and student fees, these sources do not meet all the needs for student scholarships, emergency financial assistance, or community partnerships. Through the years, the 12-member Foundation Board has significantly grown the Foundation endowment and annual fund and, subsequently, disperses an average of $140,000 in scholarships and $30,000 in emergency aid annually, most of which is gifted by service clubs, community members, and business and industry.

Dana handed out materials that described an exciting new opportunity for friends, alumni, students, staff, faculty and businesses to be part of MPTC’s new Student Services Center addition to the Fond du Lac campus. They invite you to create a lasting memory in honor of a family member, retiree, workgroup, business, student group, loved one, friend, or other important person in your life through a PERSONALIZED BRICK.

The engraved bricks will add life to the walkway around the flagpoles near the new main entrance frequented by students, staff, alumni and community members. The brick pavers are available in two sizes: 4×8 inches and 8×8 inches and cost $100 and $200 respectively.  These engraved bricks can commemorate such events as:

  • Births/Birthdays
  • Memorials
  • Graduations/Retirements
  • Dedications
  • Personal Achievements
  • Slogans/Quotes
  • Honoring Loved Ones
  • Weddings/Anniversaries
  • Business Partnerships
