Young Athletes and Special Olympics

It is the ARC’s goal to empower individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society, by offering opportunities to develop and demonstrate their talents through sport training and competition and by increasing the public’s awareness of their capabilities and needs. It will all start with Young Athletes. Young Athletes introduces children, ages 2 – 7, both with and without intellectual disabilities, and their families to the world of Special Olympics by pursuing program goals. Brian and Chelsey are setting a fall and spring session. This will be run thru the YMCA for eight weeks.

Challenge Day, Scott Rodman

Challenge Day at Fond du Lac High was Feb. 8th. Scott is the local coordinator this year. He was on the committee in 2009 and 2010. Both Vicente and Benjamin were participants as freshman in those programs. There are two separate videos on you tube. Challenge Day is an inter-active Anti Bulling Workshop to break down the walls of separation, isolation and loneliness that young people experience and to create an ambiance encouraging honest communication about issues that divide them. The first Challenge Day was held in Livermore California in 1987. Challenge Day will be held in the small gymnasium of the high school They will be led by two highly trained facilitators from the California based organization. They will host hundred students and thirty adult volunteers. This year’s program is sponsored by Open Circle UU Fellowship. Their budget is around $5,000. Gary Miller presented Scott with a check for $350 from the club. For more information, view the You Tube videos, go to their web www.chanengeday.org and read the article that Fond du Lac Reporter did in July 2016 about Scott.
