Kiwanis Happenings – March 29, 2012

Monday Morning
We had 23 folks at Monday’s meeting with 18 members, our guest speakers, Wayne King and Elaine Beltz and three NFDL Key Clubbers, Rhiannon Grams, Amanda Olson and Tate Ries. Harry Schneider was the 50/50 Raffle winner and he drew the ten of clubs, a $10 winner. That leaves 48 cards in the deck with seven pay cards and at least $260 in the pot. Still plenty of chances to win a lot of money.

Wayne King/Elaine Beltz, Wreaths Across America
Wayne King and Elaine Beltz joined us to tell us about the Wreaths Across America. Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization founded to continue and expand the annual wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery begun by a Maine businessman, Morrill Worcester, in 1992. Their mission, Remember, Honor, Teach, is carried out in part by coordinating wreath laying ceremonies on the second Saturday of December at Arlington, as well as veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond. They also organize a week of events including international veteran’s tributes, ceremonies at State Houses and a week-long “Veteran’s Parade.” This week of events is made possible by thousands of volunteers, Wayne and Elaine included.
