Monday Morning

We had 18 members at Monday’s meeting along with our guest speaker, Dana Knebel from the Moraine Park Technical College Foundation and five Fond du Lac High School Key Clubbers, Megan Buechel, Ali Gedlinske, Annie Moore, Priya Pathore and Alma Enciso.  President Charlene announced that the Oshkosh Mid-Morning Club is having a 40 Year Anniversary Celebration on November 14th from 5:30 – 9:00PM.  More details to follow but sounds like it might make a good InterClub opportunity.  Happy Bucks were offered by Gary Miller for his birthday, Vickie Goldapske for surviving her first practice as Jack’s 3rd grade basketball coach, Bob Kahl for his son’s victory party after Tuesday’s election, Steve Millin for a Badger road win, Charlene Pettit for a safe trip back to Iowa although for a sad reason and Jim Freiberg for a Wednesday with no political ads.  Gary Ring was the 50/50 Raffle winner and he drew the winning Queen of Hearts.  The pot topped out at $711 so Gary won $355.50.  Congrats Gary.  Next week’s drawing will start all over with 52 cards.  Thanks everyone for playing.

Dana Knebel, MPTC Foundation

Dana Knebel, Director of College Advancement at MPTC joined us on Monday morning to talk about the MPTC Foundation. Established in 1976, the Moraine Park Foundation works to advance the College’s mission within the Moraine Park District by seeking an added measure of financial support used to offset the financial strain felt by Moraine Park students.  Although the majority of funding for the College comes from tax revenues and student fees, these sources do not meet all the needs for student scholarships, emergency financial assistance, or community partnerships. Through the years, the 12-member Foundation Board has significantly grown the Foundation endowment and annual fund and, subsequently, disperses an average of $140,000 in scholarships and $30,000 in emergency aid annually, most of which is gifted by service clubs, community members, and business and industry.

Dana handed out materials that described an exciting new opportunity for friends, alumni, students, staff, faculty and businesses to be part of MPTC’s new Student Services Center addition to the Fond du Lac campus. They invite you to create a lasting memory in honor of a family member, retiree, workgroup, business, student group, loved one, friend, or other important person in your life through a PERSONALIZED BRICK.

The engraved bricks will add life to the walkway around the flagpoles near the new main entrance frequented by students, staff, alumni and community members. The brick pavers are available in two sizes: 4×8 inches and 8×8 inches and cost $100 and $200 respectively.  These engraved bricks can commemorate such events as:

  • Births/Birthdays
  • Memorials
  • Graduations/Retirements
  • Dedications
  • Personal Achievements
  • Slogans/Quotes
  • Honoring Loved Ones
  • Weddings/Anniversaries
  • Business Partnerships

Satellite Club Welcomes New Members

Our MPTC satellite club continues to grow. On March 15, 2012 five new Kiwanis members joined the Kiwanis Club of Fabulous Fond du Lac’s club satellite at Moraine Park Technical College (MPTC) in Fond du Lac. New members include Kathy Hass, Denise Kryzanowski, and Jennifer Matteson sponsored by Annie Sabel, Mary Hietpas sponsored by Jan Krug, and Eileen Rottscholl sponsored by Donna Miller. We welcome these new members and look forward to working alongside them in the future for the children of Fond du Lac and the world.

Kiwanis Happenings – October 27

We currently have several opportunities available for community service and volunteer work

Monday Morning
We had 17 members and three guests at Monday’s meeting. Joining us as guests were Diane Bunger and Ann Kallas from Rienzi Cemetery and our guest speaker, Dr. Ryan Haus of Fond du Lac Youth Wrestling. A donation of $314 was made to Rienzi Cemetery for the proceeds from the Brat Fry at the 3rd Annual Harvest Stroll. “Happy Bucks” were offered by Chris Serres for her surviving 27 hours of being in the car on her trip to Arkansas and back to visit her sister, and $2 by Gary Ring, one to honor Bonnie Baerwald’s efforts to start a Satellite Club at MPTC and sponsoring six new members for that Club and the other to honor Gary Miller for sponsoring two new members to the MPTC Satellite Club. Dave Twohig was the 50/50 Raffle winner and he drew the nine of clubs, not a winner so the pot continues to grow.

Dr. Ryan Haus FDL Youth Wrestling
Dr. Ryan Haus was born and raised in Fond du Lac and is a colleague of our very own Vickie Goldapske. Ryan is a family practice chiropractor with certifications in sports medicine and strength and conditioning. Ryan started wrestling at age five and has been involved with the sport ever since. When Ryan came back to Fond du Lac, he started his involvement with the FDL Youth Wrestling Program.
The Fond du Lac Wrestling Club was established many years ago with a mission to promote the sport of wrestling in the Fond du Lac area. As a club and non-profit organization, they aim to provide wrestling instruction for youths aged 5-18, to provide finan-cial assistance to the numerous school teams, and to promote the sport of wrestling to the public. Quality, experienced coaches provide wrestling instruction with an emphasis on fundamentals. Each child is given group and individualized instruction dependent on skill level. Fundraising by the club allows them to continue providing our school teams with the equipment, uniforms, mats, etc. that they require to be successful. Wrestling is a unique sport in that it provides both physical and mental development, as well as both team and individual competitions. The Fond du Lac Wrestling Club strives to help give each youth wrestler the skills to achieve suc-cess on the mat as well as off mat. Most important is that wrestling is fun.
