Monday Morning

There were 14 members at our Monday meeting plus one guest, Mary Scharinger. Mary was our guest speaker.  Harry and Dawn were our greeters. Steve had grace. Steve also had the humor. Happy bucks came from Charlene. Bonnie won again and drew the three of spades and won nothing.  We have 44 cards, 7 winners and a pot of $65.00. Fourteen members qualified for the rewards program for last year. Their charity will receive $50 from the Kiwanis.   Rules of the program are participating in three fund raising events for total of at least twenty hours, participate in two interclubs, and participate in two community service projects. All activities must be reported to Harry. Any questions please check with Harry.  Side note – Del is at home and loves visitors.  Missed Facebook thank you messages are Leslie Jaber Wilson (Pillar & Vine) and Tim Weddle for the summer picnic. Remember that we have a Kiwanis web page and Facebook. If you are on Facebook, like our page.  We have a projector for our speakers; please contact Dawn if you need it. Speaking of programs for the future, get information to Jackie or myself. Member names are being added under Programs for your future dates.

Mary Scharinger, Play It Forward

Marian student Mary Scharinger had a vision to change the world one note at a time. She is developing a program to provide piano lessons free of charge to low income children. She has four students right now with three more waiting to get in. The free lessons come with a tiny catch. The students must volunteer one hour a month.  While Scharinger had the idea for the program for a number of years, her final project for her leadership class at Marian gave her the opportunity to start the program. She is recruiting piano teachers to take student for free. She has a donated piano at Big Brothers/Big Sisters to help with lessons. Music is donated by Mike’s Music. Our community service committee donated $100 to her project. She is working on the paperwork for a 501©3. For more information, visit her Facebook, Play it forward.
