Summer of Fun, Valerie Graczyk

Valerie wants to create a Summer of Fun for children who live below the property level and live in low income housing. She wants to break down barriers preventing them from participating in opportunities offered by the Recreation department, YMCA, Public Library and UW-FDL Continuing Education. In addition, we need to stop children from going hungry during the months of July and August. Some of the ideas needed for Summer of Fun are: Transportation to Learn to Swim, Financial means to pay for College for Kids, bikes for exercise during the summer, help to register kids for new events, transportation to the pool, and transportation to Buttermilk concerts. How can we help with Summer of Fun? Val needs financial support for busing. Funds are needed for snacks at planned events. Volunteers are for both activities and the reading programs.

Fond du Lac County Update, Allen Buechel

Allen has been supervisor and county executive for around 43 years. Allen presented the new plan for new intersection of Hwy 23 and K. Good news; the state should start work on Hwy 23 this year in Sheboygan County. They have $19.4 million to start this year. Bad news, they wouldn’t finish at Hwy K until 2022. The County hopes to start the railroad overpass at Hwy N (Kinker Rd.) this fall. It will cost about $4.5 million but will stop the blockage of roads North of Fond du Lac by trains. Take a ride to South Hickory to see the new County Garage. This will replace the one on Dixie St. In addition it will have an outdoor shooting range; Sheriff’s impound lot and storage for Senior Service vehicles. Around May 1st the County/City building will have new security check point entrance. All traffic will enter thru the North door.

Organ Donation, Paul Osterholm and Nicole Braatz

What do Paul and Nicole have in common? Nicole has Paul’s left kidney. Nicole was not able to make Monday’s meeting because of change in doctor’s appointment. On October 10th Paul gave Nicole his left kidney. It takes 5 – 7 years to find a kidney match. Since February, Nicole has been on dialysis. Paul had meet Nicole years ago but when he saw a post on Facebook, he answered the call to be tested. All of Nicole’s sisters (6) did not match. Not only did Paul match but he had four of six matching antigens. This means less chance of rejection by Nicole’s body.  Not only did the surgery go well but Paul got of the hospital in time to see his new granddaughter born. There are over three thousand people waiting for kidneys in Wisconsin. Be sure to sign your driver’s license and let your family know your wish to donate. Thanks Paul for a great Random Act of Kindness.
